COMPENSATION AND RIGHT OF WAY VALUATION PROFESSIONAL GROUP
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Land constitutes the foundation of the people, city and all economic, social, cultural, physical and political activities. It is the single greatest resource base in most countries, the foundation of life and the custodian of the norms and morals in any given society. In fact, policies about land are policies about the society, hence, access to land and land management have significant implication for development. Land being a source of wealth and a platform for human activities, land governance is one of the central requirements for economic development.
Large scale public infrastructure works usually involve the acquisition of right of way across several states and payment of huge sums as compensation. Some of these public infrastructure works include public infrastructure such as highways, transmission lines, power stations, gas and oil pipelines, Water supply pipelines, sewage and drainage systems require significantly large acquisitions of land across different jurisdictions
As enunciated by the National President Dr. Patunola-Ajayi our noble profession must keep abreast of the changes in the profession and strive to position the members to obtain specialisation in the various sub-sectors of the estate surveying and valuation profession as obtains globally.
With the increasing focus of government, global multi-lateral organisations and corporations on delivery of infrastructure projects to drive development, it becomes imperative that Estate Surveyors and Valuers must be equipped to render unimpeachable professional services at all times and stave off the incursion of quacks.
It is this vision that has inspired the NIESV Council to create Faculties or Business Divisions, of which the Right of Way and Compensation Valuation Faculty is one.
