Green Building: A Cost-Saving and Health-Enabling Innovation:
President Alonge emphasized that green buildings offer significant cost savings, particularly in energy efficiency, and deliver better health outcomes for occupants. "The benefits of green buildings cut across Facility Managers, Valuers, developers, landlords, and tenants alike," he said.
Funding and Finance Accessibility:
He noted that access to funding is critical at every stage of a green project, calling for mechanisms that simplify access to green finance. He stressed the need to avoid the pitfalls of conventional mortgage structures by establishing a clear and inclusive housing policy framework tailored for green financing.
Policy support and Institutional Readiness:
He advocated for a robust policy environment that supports organizations and stakeholders willing to champion green infrastructure, stressing that one project cannot encapsulate the green agenda—it requires systemic thinking and sustained collaboration.
Awareness and Education as Enablers:
The President emphasized the importance of public awareness and professional education as foundational to promoting sustainable development. "The level of awareness and education around green buildings is still low - we must elevate it if we are serious about change," he asserted.
Collaboration for Breakthrough:
Calling all stakeholders, he remarked, "Green is the future." To achieve a sustainable breakthrough, all players in the built environment: public, private, and professional must work together to deliver this future.
