At Head of Practice Assembly, President calls for upskilling and reskilling for relevance in today's VUCA environment
President and Chairman of Council, ESV Victor Alonge, PNIVS, FRICS, FCIoD has called on members of the Institution, particularly Heads of Practices to embrace upskilling and reskilling, which are central components of professional development and organizational growth in today’s Volatile, Uncertain, Complex, and Ambiguous (VUCA) and technology driven 21st century. The work environment is transforming at lighting speed, and professionals must adapt in order to thrive in the competitive, and evolving business environment.
The president spoke today in Lagos at the Heads of Practice Assembly with the theme, "Thriving in a VUCA Environment", organized by the Lagos State Branch of the Institution.
He reminded participants that the present time calls for redefinition of processes, restructuring of practices, and collaborations. Practitioners must upscale their knowledge, expertise and competence in every area of practice. New skills, new processes, new structures, new technology, collaboration for growth and profitability must be the major drivers of transformed practices, he said.
The President said. "Professionals and Practices that would thrive today and in the future need to know how to generate new knowledge in order to meet the demands of the modern-day market, and to practice professionally within the gauge of international standards. This is a time to think and be innovative in practice and in
delivering services within the framework of the rapidly changing world. We must be proactive, we must be vigilant and alert to thinning out the boundaries of professions, including Estate Surveying and Valuation by threats emanating from e-commerce, virtual reality, greater dependence on IT and AI."
Pointing out that the theme of the HOP Assembly marked a significant milestone in the journey towards repositioning the profession for relevance and fortifying its impact across our great nation, President reiterated the commitment of his administration to sustain the on-going innovative reform measures, to entrench transparency and to nurture a pervasive culture of accountability in the system.
As a profession, we must foster robust collaboration, strategic partnerships, and networking with policymakers, regulators, and other professionals to effectively harness opportunities to thrive, President further said.
President was accompanied by the Honorary National Publicity Secretary, ESV Richard Olodu, FNIVS, ESV Ayodele Olamoju, ANIVS and Haruna ThankGod.
