The attention of Mr. President ESV Sir (Chief) Emmanuel Okas Wike FNIVS has been drawn to a post on our different platforms, titled "Public Poll on Stamp Duty Tax Regime."
Mr. President has accordingly directed that I inform you that neither himself nor the National Council is aware of the purported "Opinion Poll."
The Institution in a widely publicised press conference by the President on Tuesday, July 21, 2020 made its position on the contentious issue of Stamp Duty Tax Regime known to the general public. We have not deviated a bit from our stand.
At the meeting of the National Council on Saturday, August 8, 2020 during which the issue was discussed, it was neither resolved that opinion poll should be carried out on the issue of Stamp Duty Tax Regime. As a matter of fact, no motion was raised to that effect, and in any case if there was a need for such it wouldn’t be the responsibility of a Branch.
It is therefore embarrassing to the leadership of the Institution and the National Council to be inundated with a different position by a Branch of the same Institution.
The President therefore on behalf of the National Council disassociates the Institution from the purported opinion poll which to say the least is divisive, diversionary and unnecessary.
Members are advised NOT to respond to the purported poll. We cannot, and should not be working at cross purposes.
Branch Chairmen are advised to act within their limits on Institutional matters and always seek the consent of the President and/or the National Council through the appropriate channel of communication of Branch supervision before acting on issues of National Council responsibility.
The President hereby direct the 2nd VP, the officer supervising the Branches to call the overzealous Branch chairmen and others to order and ensure that there is a clear understanding of the National - Branch relationship framework, by Branch Chairmen.
We are one indivisible Institution and together we shall take NIESV to greater heights.
