National Insurance Conference 2023: A Resounding Success
The National Insurance Conference 2023 came to a spectacular close on its second and final day, with the resounding theme: "REDEFINING SAFETY: INSURANCE SOLUTIONS FOR PUBLIC BUILDINGS AND BUILDINGS UNDER CONSTRUCTION."
NIESV President Takes the Lead:
On the second day of the conference, 24th October 2023, ESV Johnbull Amayaevbo, the distinguished President of the Nigerian Institution of Estate Surveyors and Valuers (NIESV), assumed the role of a prominent moderator for the panel session titled: "Public-Private Partnerships in Inspiring Public Buildings and Buildings under Construction."
Engaging Panelists and Thought Leaders, members of this influential panel included:
Prince Babatunde Oguntade, President, Nigeria Council of Registered Insurance Brokers (NCRIB), Alhaji (Dr.) Aliyu O. Wamakko, President, REDAN, Dr. (Mrs.) Yeside Oyetayo, Former Rector, CIFM, HRH Eze (Dr.) Patrick C. Anyanwu, Nigeria Hotels Association President and Mr. Arif Bolarinwa, MD, Buildsure. Together, these panelists delved into the conference's overarching theme, offering their profound insights, observations, and multifaceted solutions. They emphasized the critical role of public-private partnerships in inspiring safety in construction and public buildings. The power of leveraging technology to boost insurance penetration was highlighted, as well as the importance of showcasing real-life beneficiaries who have enjoyed claims to persuade the public on the merits of insurance.
The Need for Collaborative and Unambiguous Roles:
The discussions underlined the significance of fostering partnerships and establishing unambiguous roles between stakeholders in the industry. Clear purposes and the contributions required from each party were emphasized, with a prototype policy on insurance for public buildings and buildings under construction at the forefront.
Setting the Stage for Enforcement and Monitoring:
An integral part of this historic conference was the inauguration of the Stakeholders' Committee, responsible for the enforcement and monitoring of public buildings and construction site insurance in Nigeria. NIESV played a pivotal role in this committee, and all organizations and institutions will soon designate their respective representatives.
The NIESV President stressed that the Estate Surveyor and Valuer is the only profession well trained and backed by law to carry out valuation for various purposes which include insurance purpose. The need for the insured to present a valuation report of their buildings to the insurers before accepting to insure the building. This can be done through this partnership that was inaugurated today by NAICOM

The conference also recognized the valuable contributions of the panelists, who received well-deserved awards for their dedication and expertise. It was a fitting finale to a conference brimming with profound insights, collaborative spirit, and innovative ideas.
