NIESV Inducts 108 New Fellows and bestows Honorary Fellowship
The 30th J.W. Ekpenyong Memorial Lecture and 2024 Fellows' Induction, held at the Ladi Kwali Conference Centre of the Abuja Continental Hotel on Wednesday, January 31, 2024, under the theme THE ROLE OF THE REAL ESTATE SECTOR IN NATIONAL ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT, was a remarkable success. The historic event witnessed the induction and upgrade of an unprecedented 108 members into the Fellowship cadre of the Institution.
Dignitaries from various spheres, including government officials and representatives from sister professional bodies, graced the occasion. The event witnessed the conferment of the 7th Honorary Fellow upon Mr. Yemi Idowu(MD AIRCOM), recognizing his contributions to the real estate sector in the country.
A warm welcome speech was delivered by the Chief Host ESV Johnbull Osarumen Amayaevbo, PNIVS, President/Chairman of the Council of the Institution. Another highlight at the event was the public presentation of the NIESV REM 2021 - 2023 Report, offering valuable insights for real estate industry Practitioners and stakeholders. The President extolled the legacy of ESV John Wood Ekpenyong, urging continued commitment to the profession's ethics and standards by the inductees. He emphasized the role of the Fellows in advancing the institution's goals and contributing to national development.
ESV (Sir) Adebiyi Adesanya, FNIVS, the Chairman of the Board of Fellows of the Institution, commended the President and the Privileges Committee for the remarkable growth in membership. emphasizing the responsibility they bear as leaders in the profession. While welcoming the newly inducted fellows to the fold, he stressed the relevance and Roles of being a Fellow in enhancing the growth of the profession by sustaining the standard and creating positive impacts for collaborative problem-solving, contributing to the institution's status. ESV Adesanya urged Fellows to motivate others, improve intellectual capacity, and actively contribute to Nigeria's growth and development.
ESV Bolarinde J. Patunola-Ajayi, PPNIVS the Chairman of the occasion, focused on technological innovation within the profession. He underscored the imperative for the real estate industry to evolve and embrace advancements in technology. Patunola-Ajayi emphasized the importance of staying abreast of new ideas and knowledge, particularly for the newly inducted members. He encouraged them to proactively engage with technological innovations, recognizing that evolution within the profession is essential.
ESV (Sir) Rowland E. Abonta, PPNIV in his presentation, emphasized the pivotal role of the real estate sector in national economic development. Describing real estate as a crucial resource for better living, he pointed out Nigeria's vast landmass, underscoring untapped potential. The paper covered the nature and components of real estate, its characteristics, and its intricate relationship with the components of a national economy. Abonta delved into economic objectives and policies, stressing the importance of sustainable growth, stable currency, and reduced unemployment. He outlined the role of the real estate sector in job creation, infrastructure development, revenue generation, foreign direct investment, wealth creation, and economic diversification. The speaker recommended exploring the untapped potential to motivate economic growth and concluded by underscoring the sector's vital role in national economic development, urging a comprehensive understanding and strategic approach to harness its full potential.
